Japan is a long-haul trip from the UAE: Emirates flies from Dubai to Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Osaka, with scheduled flight times of a little under ten hours. Whether you need a visa depends on your passport, not your UAE residence, so check that first, then decide whether to book independently or ask a UAE travel agency to package flights, hotels and rail travel for you.

How do you get to Japan from the UAE?
Emirates operates from Dubai International to three Japanese gateways: Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Osaka. On its route pages Emirates lists the flight duration as 9 hours 55 minutes to Narita, 9 hours 40 minutes to Haneda and 9 hours 15 minutes to Osaka, noting that times can vary by flight and season.
In February 2026 Emirates announced a second daily Narita service, EK320, from 1 May 2026, scheduled to leave Dubai at 22:30 and arrive in Tokyo at 13:30 the next day (local times). Schedules change, so check the current timetable before you book. For more on the airline and your departure airport, see our Emirates and Dubai International (DXB) guides.
Do UAE residents need a visa for Japan?
It depends on your nationality. The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) explains that passport holders of some countries do not need a visa if they stay 90 days or less and only engage in tourism, while others must apply in advance. JNTO itself does not handle visa applications and directs travellers to the Japanese embassy or consulate in their country of residence.
For UAE residents, that means the Embassy of Japan in the UAE or the Consulate-General of Japan in Dubai. Check their official pages, or ask a travel agency whether it offers visa assistance; our ranking of top-rated travel agencies in Dubai is a starting point. Do not rely on a colleague’s experience, as two people living in the UAE can face different rules.
Registration on the online service Visit Japan Web is not required, according to JNTO, but registering in advance can make procedures such as tax-free shopping more convenient.
When is the best time to visit Japan?
Spring and autumn are the best-known seasons. JNTO notes that cherry blossoms open from south to north. In Tokyo’s Ueno Park they usually bloom in late March and early April, while in northern areas such as Hirosaki in Aomori they bloom from mid-April to early May. Exact dates shift every year, so build some flexibility into a blossom trip.
For autumn colour, JNTO points to mid-November to early December as the time when trees turn red, orange and yellow, and recommends Kyoto’s gardens and temples for leaf viewing. If your dates are fixed by UAE school holidays, tell your agency early so it can plan the route around them.
What does a typical first trip look like?
A first trip can combine Tokyo with Kyoto and Osaka, linked by shinkansen (bullet train). JNTO’s FAQ gives journey times of about 2.5 hours from Tokyo to Kyoto and about 3 hours from Tokyo to Osaka on Hikari services. Flying into Tokyo and out of Osaka, both served from Dubai, can avoid backtracking.
On rail tickets, the official JAPAN RAIL PASS site sells the pass online and notes that holders can buy a special ticket to use the fastest Nozomi and Mizuho trains. Whether a pass saves money depends on your route, so ask your agency to price it against individual tickets.
Practical tips: money, cards and getting around
- Cash: JNTO notes that major credit cards are accepted at most establishments, but Japan remains largely cash-based and many smaller shops and remote ryokan accept only yen.
- IC cards: rechargeable cards such as Suica and Pasmo work on trains, buses and some boats; JNTO notes a 500 yen refundable deposit.
- Language: JNTO says public transport announcements are frequently made in Japanese and English, and signs generally include roman characters or English.
Booking a Japan package through a UAE agency
We do not quote package prices, as they change with season, hotel category and what is included. When comparing UAE agencies, ask each for the same dates and hotel standard, and check whether the quote includes flights, hotels, rail tickets or a rail pass, airport transfers and any guided touring. Start with our holidays from the UAE section and the top travel agencies in Dubai.
