How UAE prayer times are calculated
The timings on this page use the Dubai calculation method applied across the UAE, which matches the timetables commonly published by UAE authorities. Prayer times are astronomical: they follow the sun’s position for each city on each day, which is why they shift by a minute or two from one day to the next and differ slightly between cities. Small differences of a minute or so between published sources are normal.
The five daily prayers
| Prayer | When it falls |
|---|---|
| Fajr | Dawn, before sunrise |
| Dhuhr | Midday, after the sun passes its highest point |
| Asr | Mid-afternoon |
| Maghrib | Immediately after sunset |
| Isha | Night, after twilight has ended |
Do prayer times differ between emirates?
Yes, slightly. The UAE spans roughly two degrees of longitude, so the sun rises and sets a few minutes earlier on the east coast than in the west. In practice that means Fujairah and the east coast have the earliest times, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain sit in the middle, and Abu Dhabi and Al Ain run a couple of minutes later. The table above lists each emirate separately so you can use your own city’s timing.
